About Us:

Colorado Envirothon was established in 2012 by representatives of several agencies and organizations throughout Colorado, including the West Greeley Conservation District, Future Farmers of America, Colorado Association of Conservation Districts and Colorado State Conservation Board. May 5, 2013 Colorado held its first state competition.

What is Envirothon?

Envirothon is North America's largest and most academically challenging high school environmental competition. The goal of Envirothon is to enhance students' environmental literacy and enable them to make informed decisions regarding the environment.

Envirothon is a TEAM competition. Through several months of study, teams of five students prepare themselves for testing in wildlife biology, forestry, aquatics, soil science, and a current environmental issue. At Envirothon, teams must work together to answer knowledge-based questions in field-testing stations and apply that knowledge to solve real-life problems.

Why is Envirothon Important?

​CO Envirothon goals include promoting a desire to learn more about the environment and develop knowledge and skills to apply the basic principles and practices of natural resource management, enabling students to become environmentally aware and action-oriented citizens, and to promote the stewardship of natural resources through the development of critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills.

State & National Competition

The CO Envirothon is held over two days in April or May of each year. At the state competition, students will participate in seminars led by natural resource professionals, create solutions to real-life problems and present them to a panel of experts, and compete at field-testing stations in the areas of wildlife biology, forestry, aquatics, soil science, and a current environmental issue.

The winning team at the state level advances to an all-expenses-paid five-day trip to the NCF Envirothon in July or August, which is held in a different location each year. Teams at the NCF North American Envirothon compete for scholarships totaling $25,000.
