The second Colorado Envirothon competition was held May 4th at the Poudre Learning Center near Greeley, CO. with seven teams participating.
The 2014 Colorado Envirothon State Championship team hails from West Grand High School located in Kremmling CO, second place winners Sargent High School in Rio Grande County, third place winners, Moffat County High School, Craig CO, Moffat County, fourth place, Greeley West High School, Greeley, CO, Weld County. Student teams, consisting of five members, competed in Colorado’s second state contest. The state competition is one stop on the road to the North American Envirothon competition which is a national program for high school students. Participating teams completed training and testing in five natural resource categories: i.e., soils and land use, aquatic ecology, forestry, wildlife, and a current environmental issue. Test questions included written answers, and required hands-on observations, measurements and calculations. Over 25 volunteers assisted with the competition. Volunteers served as proctors, judges, room monitors, station judges, score runners, refreshment deliverers, registration, escorts, photographers, and various other tasks. |
